Market Reality: Why Companies Keep Investing in Laravel for 2026 and Beyond
| Framework | Stars | Forks | Repo status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laravel | 85.2k | 27.6k | Active |
| Symfony | 31.2k | 9.9k | Active |
| Yii2 | 14.3k | 6.8k | Active |
| Phalcon | 10.8k | 1.9k | Active |
| CakePHP | 8.8k | 3.4k | Active |

| Zend Framework | 5.4k | 2.4k | Archived since Jan 2020 ( succeeded by Laminas ) |
It may take more to rebuild a working app just to change the framework than it's worth. So many businesses opt against it for their Laravel app - add new features, improve performance, and respond to new demands while safeguarding their investment. And market data from the past year supports this approach.
1. Laravel Still Leads the PHP World
Laravel continues to be the top option for PHP developers, with 64% of them using it, well ahead of WordPress at 25% and Symfony at 23%, according to the most recent State of PHP 2025 report by JetBrains. The package is still being developed today – the main framework has also already reached 600 million downloads from Packagist and continues to gain 19 million new users each month.
2. Trusted by Businesses That Can't Afford Downtime
BuiltWith now has a live count of 288 companies that host portals based on the Laravel application framework and have at least $1M in revenue, and these include portals for Uniqlo, Citi and SAP. Businesses such as these can afford to tune a working Laravel application at a significantly lower cost than they would be able to incur if they were to rebuild it, and with zero possibility of migration issues.
3. Backed by Serious Investment
In September 2024, Laravel raised a $57M Series A round from the Accel investment firm, and that investment has already come back to you in the form of two new products: Laravel Cloud for managed hosting in February 2025, and Nightwatch for production monitoring in June 2025.
4. Ready for AI-Powered Products
Laravel 13 (Q1 2026) introduces an AI SDK for generating text, calling tools, embeddings, and vector search, enabling you to integrate AI capabilities into your existing product and easily switch the model provider in the future without having to rewrite any code.
5. Lower Cost of Ownership
You don't have to pay for a collection of third-party services; the framework is free, and all of the components are from the same team: Forge, Cloud and Nightwatch. Because Cloud can hibernate idle applications, you don't pay for compute you don't use, and major Cloud releases are supported for about 18 months for bug fixes and two years for security patches, enabling you to plan and budget for upgrades easily.
6. Easier Hiring and Handover
The conventions used in all Laravel projects, including folder structure, Eloquent models, Artisan commands and more, make it easy for an experienced Laravel developer to get around your codebase rapidly. This allows you to build your own staff, later hire agencies or contractors without having to invest in long-term training or commitment to the first agency's design.
But, you should…

What Makes Us Different
We have worked on hundreds of Laravel projects for various companies, from startups to Fortune 500 companies, and know what really matters in a business and how it affects the way we approach projects.
Our team operates in the Laravel framework and each developer has at least 5 years of hands-on experience working with Laravel. That depth means that we've already experienced many of your app's potential issues, including slow database queries, clogged queues, dirty version upgrades, and much more, so you aren't paying for trial and error.
If another developer has told you everything needs to be rewritten, you'll find we take a different view. We integrate with your codebase, preserve your business logic and data structure for each upgrade and suggest only replacing a component when it is more cost-effective for you in the long run to fix it.
We protect your data, from the first line of code. All projects are built to the security standards of OWASP and undergo frequent security audits and penetration testing, and can be constructed to the standards of regulated sectors like healthcare and finance.
You can communicate directly with our senior developers and no account manager will be relaying information back and forth. We review regularly and report progress openly; we make suggestions for improvement before things get expensive. As search visibility can rely a lot on how an app is built, we can also do technical SEO while building the app.
We measure our work by the numbers you'll notice, and in our Laravel optimization efforts, our clients have seen an average 40% decrease in page load times as a result of our implementation, 99.99% uptime for critical applications, and a 60% reduction in support tickets after we made the changes live.
For example, one of our standout projects, HASfit , a leading fitness app featured on NBC, Yahoo, TechCrunch, Mashable, CNET and Product Hunt, shows this approach in practice.
We optimized their Laravel application, bringing transaction processing times down by 65% and operating costs down by 40%, without impacting their business for a single day, without having to rewrite their app. The architecture we have created has enabled smooth deployment of app updates for the past 13 years.
Laravel Development Services: We Offer
Our Laravel services span the entire life cycle of an application, from initial build, performance optimization, upgrades and integrations, to the AI features your users are increasingly expecting. Each engagement begins with your business goals and an in-depth analysis of your existing codebase to deliver the work your app actually requires, not a pre-packaged solution.
1. Custom Laravel Development Services
We develop Laravel applications according to the way your business operates; whether it's a multi-tenant SaaS application, a customer portal, or an internal tool your team uses on a daily basis. We design your workflows, users, growth expectations, and then determine the most suitable stack for your needs, ranging from Livewire for super-fast interfaces to Inertia with React or Vue for more complex frontends, and Filament for admin panels.
2. Performance Optimization
If a Laravel application slows down, it typically boils down to unindexed queries, N+1 loading in Eloquent, missing caches or loaded queues. So we profile your application to identify those bottlenecks first, and then, by optimizing queries, using Redis as a cache, queue optimization, and ultimately by moving your app to FrankenPHP (its worker mode will make apps 3 times faster than PHP-FPM!), we resolve them.
3. Version Upgrades and Legacy Modernization
When there is an outdated version of Laravel, it quietly takes risks, and Laravel 12 has already ceased getting bug fixes in August 2026. We are doing all the application changes gradually to Laravel 13, including the lowest PHP version it requires (PHP 8.3), with automated refactoring tools like Rector and a full test pass at every step, so your business logic and data are unchanged, and nothing breaks for your users.
4. API Development and Third-Party Integrations
We create and document REST APIs, with Laravel 13 now supporting the JSON: API resources out of the box, and integrate your application with the services that it relies on, like Stripe, Razorpay, HubSpot, Salesforce, and your analytics platforms. Additionally, secure MCP servers provide the ability to expose your app's data to AI assistants and agents, allowing them to read from and execute on your system within the limits of your permissions.
5. AI and Machine Learning Integration
With the Laravel 13 AI SDK and native vector search, we develop AI features seamlessly integrated into your existing app. That includes support chatbots that respond to your own documents, semantic search, recommendation engines and automated document processing; limits on use that ensure predictable costs when using the models; and an AI approval step before any sensitive action is taken on your data or your customers' accounts.
6. Laravel Migration Services
When your application is based on an outdated framework like CodeIgniter 3, Zend Framework (archived) or custom PHP, we migrate it to the Laravel module-by-module while retaining the old system to continue serving users without the risk of a risky overnight switch. We move and validate your data in increments with the ability to concurrently switch hosting, whether that's a Laravel Cloud, Forge-managed server or your own AWS account.
7. Maintenance and Long-Term Support
Once launched, we guarantee that your app remains safe with regular dependency and security updates, monitoring of your app's uptime and any errors (including tools such as Laravel Nightwatch), and bug fixes performed by developers familiar with your codebase and its history. We also anticipate end-of-support dates for Laravel and PHP so that you can plan upgrades for your roadmap and budget before it becomes an emergency cost.

The best way to tell our story is through the experiences of those we've worked with. Our clients' comments demonstrate our dedication to excellence, both in our approach and our results.
So, let's listen to our clients' words about our service and why they trust us to work on their Laravel projects.
I hope you now know how dedicated we are to fulfilling our clients' dreams. Do you want to work with us but are unsure how we work on Laravel projects? Check out the section below.
Our Laravel development process runs in eight phases, from the first conversation to long-term growth planning, whether you're building from the ground up or adding on to a current application. At the end of each sprint, you are able to see working software, so decisions get made on real progress rather than status reports.
We begin by understanding how your business earns money, who your users are and where things go wrong now. Our Laravel developers also perform code reviews on the existing apps, database and hosting structure, and seek out opportunities where AI can really help save time or money. This is where you come out knowing what risks you face, what your priorities are and how much you should expect to spend.
Then we turn those results into a written scope with features, integrations, milestones and what's out of scope to avoid any surprises later. Our architects choose the data model, frontend approach and hosting plan with your next two or three years of growth in mind, and for more complex apps, we build a clickable prototype you can test with real users BEFORE development kicks off.
Our designers build interfaces for the things your users do most, incorporating your brand guidelines and a library of reusable components that ensures uniformity across every screen, as your app scales. We design for mobile first, validate important workflows with you and follow WCAG accessibility standards, which means that the build begins with approved screens rather than speculation that gets reworked midway through your project.
Each two-week sprint is followed by a demo of features you can click through, such as a customer dashboard, checkout flow, or custom API. With the help of AI coding systems like Laravel Boost, our developers work quicker, and every line is checked by a senior engineer, while front-end work is carried out simultaneously with the back end, without placing any things on holds.
Testing is not done at the end but during the development process. We create automated tests with Pest; PHPStan static analysis tests your code on each change; we add load and security tests before launching and browser tests that navigate your application as a real user. All checks that fail are corrected prior to merging, minimising late-stage bugs and delays to launch.
We create automated CI/CD pipelines, staging and preview environments, ensuring that any changes are put to the test in a production environment before being released. Deployments occur without downtime; risky features can be deployed first to a small group of users behind feature flags and we can do it on Laravel Cloud, AWS or your own servers as per your needs.
We do monitor for errors, performance and user behavior in the first few weeks after launch and we act fast to fix any issues that become apparent during these weeks. After it's stabilized, the app becomes a supported application, and those who started development will continue supporting it, so no one will have to learn your codebase when it needs updating.
With an increasing user base, we regularly assess your app's performance metrics and business goals with you, and execute the next series of features, infrastructure updates, or AI features before the need for a hasty decision arises. This includes all the necessary scaling, tuning of your database as traffic increases, and planning for upgrades as you go so that the application remains in step with your business.
Our industry-specific solutions are tailored to meet the unique challenges and requirements of each sector, ensuring that your Laravel application not only complies with industry standards but also exceeds expectations.
We have flexible pricing options to suit the needs of each project to ensure you get the best return on your investment at Agicent. Why Choose Laravel for Web and App Development?
The Laravel usage statistics in the market above this page indicate the popularity of this software. Now we discuss the implications of that in practical terms and then what you shouldn't do with Laravel because a good choice of framework depends on knowing this too.
1. Faster Apps That Convert Better
Speed has a direct impact on revenue and a study by Google, conducted by Deloitte revealed that a 0.1-second improvement in the speed of mobile sites increased retail conversions by 8.4%. Whether that means route caching, config caching, or query caching, or it's Redis or Laravel Octane keeping your app loaded in memory between requests and reducing the server response time that impacts Core Web Vitals, Laravel provides you with the tools to get it done.
2. Room to Grow Without a Rebuild
As traffic increases, Laravel grows with queues to handle background tasks, monitoring these tasks with Horizon, Redis-backed caching and stateless application servers to add behind a load balancer without re-architecting the application. That is, of course, not scalable in production, and Sportmonks is hosting 12 applications on Laravel Cloud, which handle 600 million API requests weekly.
3. Security Built Into the Framework
Security can't be an afterthought, as IBM's 2025 Cost of a Data Breach report revealed an average of $4.44 million lost due to a data breach worldwide. Laravel guards you from these common attacks for free: CSRF tokens on forms, parameter binding to prevent SQL injection, automatic output escaping to prevent XSS attacks, strong password hashing, encryption and built-in rate limiting for login and API routes.
4. Ready for APIs and AI Agents
APIs are at the heart of countless products, and according to the Postman 2025 State of the API report, 82% of organizations are building API-first, with half of developers saying unauthorised or too many calls from AI agents is their primary security concern. Both authentication methods, Sanctum and Passport, are supported, as are token permissions that restrict each client's (or agent's) capabilities, and API rate limiting.
5. Faster Development with AI in the Loop
Because of Laravel's predictable structure, AI coding assistants have very clear patterns to follow, especially since 80% of PHP developers integrate AI coding assistants into their workflows regularly, according to JetBrains. Features that set your product apart from others cost you your budget, while ready-made features like authentication starter kits, Cashier for subscription billing and Filament for admin panels do not.
6. A Predictable Future You Can Plan Around
You can upgrade as you do for other recurring costs, as Laravel releases a new major version around the first quarter of every year. Over time, those upgrades have also been less intrusive, and the Laravel team hopes that most applications will run and upgrade to Laravel 13 with relatively little app code change, meaning you stay up to date without having to rewrite your entire app every few years, taking a chance on a project that isn't stable.
Limitations of Laravel? (and How to Work Around Them)
There is no universal framework for all projects, and knowing the weaknesses of Laravel before spending a dime can help you make the right choice. That's where Laravel fails and what we do when we hit those limits.
1. Not Built for Heavy Computation or Model Training
Because PHP is not built for number-crunching tasks such as training AI models or handling massive scientific datasets, the ML ecosystem is largely Python-based, and this emerged by 7 points in the last 12 months in terms of Python, as per the Stack Overflow survey of the top languages used in the world in 2025. If we need that kind of computation for a project, we keep the product in Laravel and run the heavy processing in a separate ML development service .
2. Weaker at Massive Numbers of Open Connections
The traditional approach to PHP processing is to work on one request at a time per worker, so applications with a massive number of open connections like multiplayer games or live trading platforms work better in Node.js or Go. Laravel has closed that gap with its own first-party WebSocket server, Reverb, which supports thousands of connections on a single server, the number of which is enough to support chat, notifications and live dashboards for most businesses.
3. A Big Ecosystem to Learn
Laravel's breadth creates a lot of choices, from Livewire or Inertia on the frontend to Cloud, Forge or Vapor for hosting, and newer developers can waste hours deciding on which one to deploy. Another danger here is that AI coding assistants may propose outdated patterns, as they lack the context of your Laravel version. So it's more important to have already seen code before than to have had it written quickly.
4. More Than a Small App Needs
If you have a simple marketing site, you're running more structure than you need in the job with Laravel. If your project requires no authentication, a database layer, queues, or an admin panel you will probably want to use a static site or a micro-framework such as Slim or a serverless function, as they are generally cheaper to build and host.
5. Shared Hosting Holds It Back
Many of the most useful features of Laravel, like queues, task scheduler, Reverb and more, depend on long-running processes that cheap shared hosting wouldn't typically support. A simple site can be created on shared hosting, but if you're building a real product, you'll need to be running it on either a VPS or something like Laravel Cloud/Forge, which will require a higher monthly payment than the lowest tier of hosting.
6. New AI Libraries Reach PHP Later
The majority of new AI frameworks, agent toolkits or model SDKs are initially released for Python and TypeScript and then support for PHP is added later, if any. While Laravel's AI SDK gets the basics covered, if your product relies on using the latest research libraries when they're introduced, you may have to have part of your stack run outside of PHP alongside your Laravel application.
A hit on one of these limits doesn't necessarily mean that Laravel is eliminated, as it is often the case of having a Node.js or Python service that handles the specialized part, while Laravel handles the non-specialized part. We also use React Native, Node.js, Vue.js and Python for building your products, and will suggest the most suitable stack for your product, not the most preferred.
We containerize our Laravel apps using Docker, so that they have the same setup and dependencies in both the development and production environments. Using Docker, we can scale, maintain and deploy Laravel applications without any compatibility problems, easily across environments.
The time may differ depending on the project and complexity, but for a typical Laravel-based application, development could take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks. At the beginning, we will give you detailed milestones and timelines for your project to ensure you know exactly what you are getting into.
We implement best practices to ensure Laravel apps are secure, such as CSRF, data encryption, and input validation. Also, we perform security audits and penetration tests to find and fix vulnerabilities before deployment.
One of the best features of the Laravel framework is its built-in migration system. We develop versioned migrations to help keep databases in sync with code changes and allow both rolling back if needed and managing updates between environments smoothly.
Yes, we utilize Laravel's Eloquent ORM for managing operations in the database in an efficient manner. It lets our developers interact with database records in PHP, rather than writing SQL each time.
We leverage Laravel caching, optimise queries, and eliminate redundant code for optimum application performance. We also leverage Laravel's built-in cache capability to ensure quick response times and enhanced application performance.
We use conventions and adhere to strict coding standards and regularly review code in Laravel projects. We also use tools like PHPStan for static code analysis and Laravel Pint for code consistency.
